GAS SOFT NITRIDING (GSN)
Gas Soft Nitriding (GSN) is a thermo-chemical treatment that involves diffusional additions of both nitrogen and carbon to the surface of ferrous
materials at a temperature of 1058F. The atmosphere is formed from ammonia gas and endothermic gas consisting of carbon monoxide, nitrogen and hydrogen.
The benefit of the Gas Soft Nitriding (GSN) process is a tough ductile epsilon carbon-nitride phase with other materials and oxides (the compound zone). An additional
benefit of Gas Soft Nitriding (GSN) is the creation of the diffusion zone, which contains a much lower concentration of nitrogen in solid solution with the base material.
OVERALL BENEFITS OF GAS SOFT NITRIDING (GSN):
- Wear Resistance
- Fatigue Resistance
- Corrosion Resistance
- Thermal Performance
- Dimensional Integrity
